SUMMER STOCK AUSTIN, IN PARTNERSHIP WITH TEXAS PERFORMING ARTS, PRESENTS

SCOUT! AN ORIGINAL MOVIE  MUSICAL

At the Bass Concert Hall on UT campus

August 15, 2021 (Austin, TX) -- Summer Stock Austin (SSA) combined high school and college students from the Austin area and all around the country to produce an original movie musical SCOUT!  SSA has partnered with Texas Performing Arts to produce Austin’s most extraordinary  screening of the year in the Bass Concert Hall on UT Campus Sunday August 15 at 6pm.

"I am thrilled to welcome Summer Stock Austin to Texas Performing Arts” stated Bob Bursey, Executive and Artistic Director of Texas Performing Arts.  “Presenting musical theater and developing the next generation of stage artists are both central to our mission, so hosting their work is a natural fit. Throughout her career, Ginger Morris has nurtured new Austin talent with unmatched energy.  I’m pleased to provide the participants of Summer Stock Austin with space to create, and look forward to seeing the results."

-Bob Bursey, CEO of Texas Performing Arts

Scout is a comic musical fable telling the story of a single day in an ordinary suburban neighborhood as seen through the extraordinary lens of Scout - a vibrantly imaginative 13-year old  on the verge of a major change she can’t control. From Emmy Award winners Allen Robertson & Damon Brown comes an original movie musical, the feel good story of the summer. Allen and Damon are known for their decade-long PBS show, The Biscuit Brothers as well as the Summer Stock Austin premieres: Tortoise and Hare, Steadfast Tin Soldier, Stone Soup, A Shoe Story, Rob1n, and Haunted.

“We are enthusiastic about producing a fully staged musical again after more than a year of digital theatre, hybrid performances, masked theatre, and virtually no audiences. These 50 performers are ready to take the stage with death defying cheer routines, electrifying hip hop choreography, contemporary Miranda-style vocals, and a story full of hope, humor, and heart.”

- Allen Roberson and Damon Brown, Co-writers and co-directors for Scout

The screening will include the first live viewing of the full movie musical, a behind-the-scenes look at the process with interviews and never before seen footage, and a talk-back with the creative team and key cast members. It is socially distanced seating so tickets will sell out quickly.
